PixTanks

2D Multiplayer Top-Down Tank Shooter

PixTanks is a 2D top-down tank shooter focused on simple controls and tank variety. The game supports multiplayer, but connections are handled manually: players can either host a game themselves or connect directly to a server using its IP address. There is no matchmaking system or official servers.

Gameplay

The core gameplay revolves around different tank types, each with its own weapon style and combat role. Examples include shotgun tanks, flamethrower tanks, laser tanks, machine gun tanks, heavy tanks, and others. Each tank fires a unique type of projectile and has its own reload timing and combat behavior.

Controls are intentionally simple. Tanks can move forward and backward, rotate toward the mouse cursor, and fire their weapon. Despite the simple mechanics, gameplay depth comes from how different tanks interact with each other. Each type has strengths and weaknesses, creating counterplay, counter-picks, and situational decision making during battles.

Game Modes

• FFA Arena: fight against bots in a free-for-all environment.
• Capture the Flag: a multiplayer mode where two teams compete to capture the opposing team's flag. Team composition and adapting to the enemy's tank choices become important here.

Progression

During matches, players can collect gears that allow their tank to level up and improve its stats. Tanks have three upgrade levels, and each level changes the visual sprite of the tank. If a tank is destroyed, it resets to the starting level and loses all collected gears.

A shop is available directly in the arena where players can switch tanks or upgrade them during gameplay. The purchase action requires a short animation, and it can be interrupted if enemies attack during the process.
